you would fall if there were any less ! well u could have three but it wud look stupid !

  2. Edwin Says:

Over the years it was discovered that four legs provide the best stability for the least amount of material used.

  3. Sophie Says:

    For stability, strength etc.
You can get a stool with 3 legs which can sometimes be slightly unstable when sat on.

  4. daz Says:

    not all chairs do

  5. Felix Lee Says:

    Yes:)

For one leg, they realised that you could fall off cos you can’t stand on one leg for long, and either can the chair.

For two legs, they realised that the chair could run away, leaving you on the floor.

For three legs, they realised that the chair can lift up one leg, and bye bye to your butt.

So four legs are the best. Have you ever sat on a three legged horse?

    Hahaha

STABILITY. The centre of gravity can move forward, backward,or sideways, right out to a line drawn between two adjacent feet, before it falls over. In the case of chairs that have a back, the centre of gravity.is moved nearer to it,making it easier to fall backwards.

Because most floors from the 18th century onwards have been level and a 4-legged chair is stable on a flat surface. Prior to perfectly level floors 3-legged stools and chairs were the norm. I’m afraid Sophie has got it wrong, you can place a 3-legged chair, stool or table on an uneven floor and, most times, it will be stable. 4-legged chairs are more elegant and the very obese gentry of the 18th century felt happier sitting on them!
